Chapter History

The Rho Lambda Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on September 22, 1999 in SeaTac, Washington. The chartering ceremony was held at Ebenezer AME Church in Seattle on November 6, 1999 with the late Pacific Regional Director, Soror Stella Bronson and then Washington State Director, Soror Frances Cal both officiating the ceremony. The charter members are: Malkia Boggan, Cynthia Brown, Nui Brown, Heather Colon, Shantae Ford, Robin Hall, Shareece Hayes, Cheryl Jones, Marlena Parker, Elizabeth Peterson, and Pam Taylor. Currently the chapter holds a membership of 30+ active members, which continues to grow exponentially.

Charter Members

  • Soror Cynthia Brown

    Cynthia Brown spent the first 18 years of her career working as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Pediatric primary care and hospice. She took a break from healthcare to pursue other interests and landed in nonprofit serving women experiencing homelessness. While in that nonprofit, she realized the gravity of the Public Health crisis facing King County’s most vulnerable population and decided to re-enter the health profession as an administrator. “I just couldn’t watch those women suffer any longer knowing that I had the education and training to work on larger healthcare system issues impacting this population.” She is now the administrator at a large Public Health Center in East King County. Cynthia earned her BA in English/African American Studies from Wesleyan University and her MSN from Yale University School of Nursing.

  • Soror Nui Brown-Sims

    In December of 1993, Nui relocated to Seattle, WA and joined the LAZ chapter where she served as the Graduate Advisor to the Kappa Nu Seattle City-Wide Chapter. She has the distinct honor of being the first President of the Rho Lambda Zeta Chapter. In 2002, Triumphant Past International Grand Basileus Barbara Crockett Moore appointed Nui as the new WA State Director where she served from 2002-2006. Additionally she served as the acting Oregon State Director and, reactivated the chapter in Anchorage, AK during her tenure. At the Boule in 2010, she was appointed the Pacific Regional Director where she served two years under Past International Grand Basileus, Soror Sheryl P. Underwood. Nui served two additional years under Past International Grand Basileus Mary Breaux Wright until 2014. Currently, Nui has served Internationally on the National Publications Team and the National Constitution and Bylaws Revision Committee.

  • Soror Shantae Ford

    Professor Shantae Ford (B.A -Speech Communication/M.B.A.) crossed Winter 94, line name Exodus, Zeta name -Rolling Thunder, number-3. Driven by her desire to give back to the community that shaped who she is, Shantae is looking forward to rejoining Rho Lambda Zeta in the coming year.

  • Soror Pam Taylor

    Pam Taylor is the Associate Director of Housing Choice Vouchers. I have been with the King County Housing Authority for 21 years. I am the proud mother of 3. My son Treon is 24 a WSU graduate and is a Global analyst. My daughter Jazzy is 17 graduates from high school this year and heading to Seattle Central CC. My youngest Senai is 10 and graduates from 5th grade and heading to middle school. WTR’94, Exodus, Ace. We became charter members in an effort to start our own legacy. Other established chapters were set with their activities we had ideas and felt this was the way to put a new foundation into action. We researched and used our addresses mine being one to establish the new chapter.

  • Soror Cheryl Jones

    Dr. Cheryl Jones is a proud Legacy of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and has served her communities for over 30 years. She is currently a member of the Beta Delta Zeta chapter and has been instrumental in enhancing the presence of her chapter through various media outlets. Dr. Jones holds the offices of Public Relations Director, Founder’s House Trustee and Team Captain of Ladiez of Zeal graduate step team. Cheryl strives to continuously share her managerial, fiscal, and administrative talents in ensuring that she live by the oath she willingly took to support the ideals of Zeta Phi Beta. Currently, she works for the City of Philadelphia, Department of Behavioral Health Intellectual DisAbilities Office of Addiction Services, Provider Program Management Unit as a Behavioral Health Program Analyst.

  • Soror Marlena Parker

    I am a native to Seattle who matriculated from the undergraduate chapter, Kappa Nu to Rho Lambda Zeta. I have worked 25 years as a closer for a major title insurance company. Hobbies include spending time with family and running 5K races.

  • Malkia Boggan

    Malkia attended the University of Oregon from 1991 - 1996. While there, she was a member of the Marching Band's Jazzline dance team and a cheerleader (where she was able to cheer at the 1995 Rose Bowl against Penn State). Malkia joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated in the Spring of 1996 through the Rho Omicron Chapter on the Ladies of Blu-Flava line. Soror Boggan obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, and minor from the Substance Abuse Prevention Program (SAPP). After graduation, she moved from Portland, OR to Seattle, WA in 1998.

    Malkia has a son, Jordan, who just graduated from Eastside Catholic High School and loves spending time with him, family and friends. Her hobbies have always been dancing and fitness, where she's had opportunities to instruct hip hop and various types of aerobics classes at local community centers in Seattle/Burien, and had been involved with a dance troop called, Hypnotic. She is a member of Risen Church in Kent, WA and an employee of UW Medicine for the past 6 years.

  • Shareece Hayes

    Shareece Hayes is a committed advocate for youth, community engagement, and higher education. She was initiated into Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated through the Kaptivating Kappa Nu chapter at the University of Washington in 1994, embracing the sorority's founding principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood. As a charter member of the Rho Lambda Zeta Chapter, Hayes has played a pivotal role in helping to establish the chapter with a vision to expand community service initiatives, foster leadership, and strengthen membership throughout the State.

    Professionally, Hayes serves as a field faculty advisor and teaching associate in the Child Welfare Training and Advancement Program at the University of Washington School of Social Work. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1995, graduating with a double major in Sociology and Society & Justice. Furthering her expertise, she received her Master of Social Work in 2013, specializing in Integrated Health/Mental Health.

    With over 25 years of experience in juvenile justice and child welfare, Hayes has continuously championed efforts to support vulnerable youth and families. In recognition of her unwavering dedication, the Rho Lambda Zeta Chapter established its first scholarship in her name in 2020, honoring her contributions to education, advocacy, and mentorship of undergraduate members at the University of Washington. 

  • Robin (Hall) Durr

    Robin Durr is a highly respected healthcare professional with over 30 years of nursing experience, including 26 years as a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Her clinical background includes geriatrics, pediatrics, primary care, emergency medicine, research, military healthcare, and medical cannabis. She began her nursing journey in Seattle, Washington, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington and her Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner credentials from Seattle University. In 2002, Robin received a Fellowship to complete a Ph.D. in Nursing from University of Washington, which she did in just 2 years and then moved to Virginia to support her husband after he received an awesome opportunity to advance his military career. Robin and her husband, Alfranda, raised 4 boys who are all now independent hard working men.

    Since relocating to Northern Virginia, Robin has worked as an instructor in George Mason’s traditional and accelerated Nursing Programs, Director of Nursing for Reveal Med spa, and Director for Inpatient Adolescent Unit in the Emergency Room.

    In 2020, she founded Ethnic Pride, Inc., a multifaceted organization encompassing several ventures: Reflections of Beauty, Green Goddess, and Divine Hands CPR. Through these enterprises, Robin remains dedicated to patient education, holistic wellness, and building self-confidence through compassionate care.
